Biography
Gareth Dafydd Morris studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music.
Gareth is contracted to Welsh National Opera and has recently sung Jim in the world premiere of Will Todd's Migrations, PR Agent in Al Wasl for the Dubai Expo, the roles of Karataev and Konovitsyn in War and Peace (also at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden), Giudice Un Ballo in Maschera, Cherevin and off stage voice in From the House of the Dead (also for the International Janacek Festival in Brno, Czech Republic), Streshnev in Khovanshchina, Kaherdin in Le Vin Herbe and Faninal's Major Domo in Der Rosenkavalier and covered many roles, most notably Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Kuzka in Khovanshchina, King Mark Le Vin Herbe, Benoit La Bohème, German Soldier and Private Watcyn in the world premiere of In Parenthesis and Malcolm in Macbeth.
Selected roles elsewhere include Faust in Boito's Mefistofele and title role Roberto Devereux for Opera Valladolid, Triquet Eugene Onegin for Opera Holland Park, Borsa Rigoletto, Bardolfo Falstaff and 1st Servant Capriccio all for Grange Park Opera, Rodolfo La Bohème and Cavaradossi Tosca for OperaUpClose, Jenik The Bartered Bride for Kentish Opera, Alfred Die Fledermaus and Camille The Merry Widow for Opera della Luna.
Gareth performs internationally in concert and oratorio and has broadcast as a soloist with BBC NOW and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra on BBC Radio 2, 3 and 4.
Gareth was runner up in the Wagner Society's Singing Competition in November 2015 and won the President's Award, given by Dame Gwyneth Jones.
Future performances include Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle in Abergavenny, Elgar’s The Kingdom and Verdi’s Requiem both in Ripon Cathedral, Messiah in Cardiff and London, Carmina Burana in Llandaff Cathedral and in London.
Gareth has recently taken on the Musical Directorship of Cor y Cymoedd, a mixed voice choir in Ebbw Vale, performing a wide range of repertoire including Mendelssohn’s Christus, Messiah, Haydn’s Creation with forthcoming performances of Fauré’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G and Mozart’s Requiem.
